Story time!

The world of Penumbra. All across it, humans and their creations, the Golems, work to keep the world running. And at something similar to peace. Machina Golems, most of them of the basic and skilled breed, are most commonly seen in the workplace, at people's homes, and skilled ones work alongside humans in national armies. Skilled Golems are also seen as law enforcement, bailiffs, and correctional officers, though usually accompanied by human partners.

Despite all of this, there is still the underground. Magic Golems, which are used some by the common folk, are the most seen around crime syndicates, who are the ones who shift into them. The most common of which being the Nightmare Golems, the Golems of the underground are far more lethal then most Machina Golems. This is due that magic has very few limits, and Machina Golems are restrained by their engineering.

A few hero types, with the ability to shift into more then one Magic classification of Golem, have tried to break down crime. A few even managed to succeed against a few crime syndicates. However, crime still exists, while the heros do not. Criminals make it plain who wins in these encounters by hanging the bodies in public places. Governments across the world decided to put more "official" research into Magic Golems, and thus the military forces have been receiving the ability to shift.

Cedric Carter is an enigma worldwide. Though he is known by almost all national governments and crime syndicates, and desired as well, he is unknown to the public. Cedric has the ability to shift into all Magic Golems, and can also shift into Machina Golems. He is, however, naively unaware of the attention of the important people, and goes about life as a traveler. He helps out others in return for house and board for a time, though his good nature allows him to help those who need it for no reward.
